Marie, past lakes, across trestle bridges, over rivers, and through the expansive forest to Agawa Canyon Park. From there, visitors can enjoy a picnic, hike, and experience a panoramic view of the most beautiful natural autumnal display they have ever witnessed.

Throughout the trip, passengers can take advantage of the multi-language GPS triggered audio commentary. Highlights of the audio tour include the long history of the Ojibway as well as the fur trade, explorers, and entrepreneurs that visited and lived in the area.  

The Agawa Canyon Tour Train runs the 10-hour round trip tours from August 1 through October 15 each year. It is an excellent way to spend the day enjoying the crisp autumn air while having a one-of-a-kind experience in nature. Tickets are available online and lunch and snacks are available for purchase on the train or by preorder.

Hiking Robertson Cliffs and Hiawatha Highlands

For the more feet-on-the-ground kind of traveller, Sault Ste. Marie is the place to be. With extensive hiking trails through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the county, it is a hiker’s paradise. 

For experienced hikers, Robertson Cliffs is a must. Located north of Sault Ste. Marie, the trail is part of the Algoma Highlands Conservancy and is home to seven kilometres of trails with views of cliffs, forest, and a spectacular waterfall.

Hiawatha Highlands Conservation Area is a great destination for all levels of hikers. The conservation area includes 35 kilometers of nature trails so there really is a hike for everyone. The landscapes are beautiful, especially during the autumn months where visitors are treated to the incredible fall colours. On top of the changing leaves, the area boasts 97 hectares of old-growth forests, waterfalls, creeks, lakes, and wetlands, all of which are home to over 70 species of birds and 18 species of mammals.
