Every traveller knows their passport is their ticket to the world, unlocking doors to far-off destinations and seamless adventures.

The Henley Passport Index, based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority (IATA), has just released its 2024 edition, revealing significant shifts in global passport power.

The Henley Passport Index, which has been tracking passport strength for 19 years, ranks passports based on the number of countries their holders can visit without a visa. The index includes 199 different passports and 227 travel destinations, making it the most comprehensive and authoritative ranking available.

In an exciting development for Canadian travellers, the Canadian passport has become even stronger this year. It now ranks at #7, up from #8, allowing holders to access 187 visa-free destinations. This improvement has pushed Canada ahead of the United States, which has slipped to the eighth position after being seventh last year.

Seven countries share the third rank: Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, South Korea, and Sweden. Meanwhile, Belgium, Denmark, New Zealand, Norway, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom share the fourth spot, showcasing a diverse range of strong passports worldwide.

The Henley Passport Index, enhanced by Henley & Partners’ research team, provides expert insights into global mobility trends. The 2024 rankings reflect the dynamic nature of international travel freedom and the increasing value of holding a strong passport.

For Canadian travellers, the enhanced power of their passport means more opportunities for visa-free travel and greater ease in exploring new destinations. As global mobility continues to evolve, the Canadian passport stands out as a key to unlocking a world of adventures.
