Winter is in full swing, and Family Day weekend (February 15-17) is the perfect time to embrace the great outdoors!

And it just so happens that Ontario Parks has lined up a variety of activities for families looking to enjoy fresh air, adventure, and winter fun.

Whether you're seeking an evening hike by firelight or a thrilling day on the toboggan hills, there's something for everyone to enjoy. Here’s a look at what’s happening across Ontario Parks this Family Day weekend.

Skate, Ski & Snowshoe at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park

Bundle up and head to Sleeping Giant for a day packed with outdoor activities. Glide along the ice skating loop, warm up by a nearby campfire, try your hand at ice fishing, or explore the park’s scenic trails on a winter hike, cross-country skis, or snowshoes. The visitor centre will be open from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm, and day-use parking is available near the skating loop. Don’t forget to reserve your vehicle permit in advance!

Winter in the Wild at Algonquin Provincial Park

Experience the magic of winter at Algonquin’s annual Winter in the Wild event on February 15. This celebration showcases the very best of the season with both indoor and outdoor activities for all ages. Family Fun at Bronte Creek Provincial Park

Bronte Creek offers a perfect blend of outdoor play and barnyard charm. Kids 10 and under can explore the indoor play barn, visit the children’s farm, or embark on a self-led Adventure Lab hike. Thrill-seekers can hit the toboggan hill for a rush of winter excitement, while nature lovers can enjoy birdwatching, photography, or a scenic walk along the ravine lookout. The park’s trails and outdoor play equipment will also be open for visitors to enjoy.

Fire and Stars Hikes at Sibbald Point Provincial Park

On February 15, take an enchanting evening hike at Sibbald Point along the Maidenhair Fern Trail, lit only by fire and the stars. Hike at your own pace between 6:30 and 9:30 pm or join a guided walk with Discovery staff at 6:30 pm. The journey takes about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your pace. Snowshoes are recommended, but not required—just be sure to check the Snow Report before heading out!
