Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts have a new destination to look forward to this summer.
As of July 1, 2024, Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park in the Township of Uxbridge will officially open to the public. This exciting new park promises a unique experience for those looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of Ontario’s natural landscapes.
A Park Unlike Any Other
When you think of a provincial park, you might picture a vast, continuous expanse of wilderness, perhaps following a river or encompassing a large forest. Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park breaks this mold. Instead of being a single connected area, the park consists of individual parcels of land scattered throughout the Uxbridge area. While these parcels aren’t all connected yet, there’s potential for them to be linked by future land acquisitions, recreational areas, and trail systems.
A Soft Opening with Limited Operations
As the park opens, visitors should expect limited operations while the park management planning processes are underway. This means that access, parking, and recreational activities will be somewhat restricted initially. However, don’t let this deter you from visiting. A few short trail loops and a handful of parking spots will be available for self-guided activities such as walking, hiking, running, and biking.
While exploring Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park, it’s important to stay on the marked trails and adhere to the principle of “leave no trace.” This is a new park, and its staff and systems are still in development. By taking care of the space and minimizing your impact, you’ll help preserve the park’s natural beauty for future visitors.
One of the perks of visiting during this initial phase is that there is no need to obtain a daily vehicle permit to park and access the designated trails. The park is available for day use only, from 8 am to 10 pm, providing ample time for a day of adventure and relaxation in nature.
Why Visit Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park?
What sets Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park apart is its blend of urban convenience and natural beauty. The scattered parcels of land offer diverse landscapes to explore, making each visit a new adventure. Whether you’re looking for a peaceful place to walk your dog, a scenic trail for a morning run, or a spot to unwind and enjoy the outdoors, this park has something to offer.
As Uxbridge Urban Provincial Park grows and evolves, it holds the promise of becoming a beloved green space in the heart of Uxbridge. By visiting now, you can be part of its early story and watch it transform into a fully developed provincial park.
