1. Set Up Your Work Area

Place your salmon fillet, skin-side up, on a wire rack over a shallow dish like a baking dish or pie plate. This dish will catch any runoff from the boiling water and should be large enough that your salmon doesn’t hang over the edges.

2. Pour Boiling Water Over the Skin

Using a kettle, carefully pour boiling water over the entire surface of the salmon skin. Let the hot water coat the skin fully, and let the fish sit for 30 seconds to 1 minute.

3. Remove the Skin with a Paper Towel

Grab a paper towel and gently slide it between the salmon flesh and the skin, or if you prefer, you can simply grab onto the skin with your fingers. You’ll find it should peel away effortlessly! If any areas are still clinging, a little extra hot water should do the trick.

Now, with your salmon perfectly skinned, you’re ready to cook!

While this hack makes removing salmon skin a breeze, feel free to leave the skin on if you prefer. Crispy salmon skin adds a delicious texture to your meal—simply cook the fillet skin-side down in a hot, oiled pan, and the high heat will crisp it up beautifully.
